July, August and October Meeting Minutes Posted on officer's page.

Directions to the Filardo farm for the August DCARC meeting

Corrections on directions: From Lawrence or KC via K-10: We are are approximately 2 miles south of K-10. If exiting from eastbound K-10 from Lawrence, it will be about 200 feet short of 2 miles from the exit to our driveway. If exiting from westbound K-10 (from KC) it will be about 150 feet more than 2 miles. About 1.5 miles south of K-10 you will pass by open fields on both sides of the road, then there will be 4 houses on the left side of the road. Turn into the third driveway on the left.

From Southern Douglas County: If you are approaching from the south (from DG458, US-56, or I-35), you will proceed north on DG 1061 / 2200 Road. You will crest a hill at 1100 road, then turn into the second driveway on the right, about 850 feet past 1100 road. The hill and first house hide our house until you are about 300 feet from the driveway so start slowing down for the turn once you pass 1100 road. We will put out a sign at the driveway entrance as there is not a tower.

We will have a cookout dinner between 6 PM and 7PM for those who wish to show up early. Burgers / Dogs / water & soft drinks provided. Feel free to bring a side dish or desert item to share. Ken

Jim and Bud informed me this morning that our Jerry Grey, WA0IKA is now SK. He was such a gentle giant with a keen mind and pleasant nature. We will miss him. We'll post more information later.

06/22/14 Hello All DCARC Members!

Hello All:

this includes a map. Just go to the ARRL site and enter
W0UK or Lawrence, KS and our (W0UK) site comes up with map.

tnx Fred and EMR for reminding me about this.

1. go to www.arrl.org
2. select or search there for the FIELD DAY LOCATOR
3. enter WOUK or Lawrence KS.
4. map is included: zoom in to the Wells Overlook Park at 59 HWY and N 1000 Rd.

73, Unc Phil, W0XI

The Douglas County Special Event Permit for the use of Well's Overlook has been received.

Phil is setting up the CW station. Bill has the SSB station. We are planning for a GOTA station too. The porta-potty has been ordered. Ken Filardo is providing the big generator. We plan to log with laptops at the SSB and CW stations. Phil donated a new FD logging program to the club (latest N3FJP FD version). Each station will be set up in a separate tent. Setup starts at 8 AM. We need help so club members please atatend, at least for setup and tear down. Tear down will be 1 PM on Sunday.

Phil and Virginia are organizing the main course for the Saturday dinner. We plan to have dogs and hamburgers for the main course. You must bring your own paper plates and a side dish. Bill will provide the cooker again.

See you at FD at Wells Overlook.

Uncle Phil, W0XI

PS: You can go to the ARRL website to download the details/protocol for FD exchanges. I'd suggest that you review the exchange protocol between stations and the list of non-standard designations for the larger states, like CA and FL.

ANNOUCEMENT 5/7/14. The DCARC will be having an ARRL VEC test session on Saturday afternoon, July 12, 2014, at the Grace Community Church, 310 E. 8th, in Overbrook, KS. It will begin at 3:00 PM. All amateur radio license classes will be available for testing. The test fee is $15, payable by cash or check. Be sure to bring a photo ID and know your social security number or FCC issued FRN number. If you are currently licensed, please bring a photocopy of that license that can be sent in with your paperwork.

You must be registered to attend this test session. No walk-ins will be allowed. Those who are taking the DCARC license class that day are automatically registered. Anyone else who wants to take a test must pre-register by contacting Bob Drake, N0TFU, at 785-842-5961 or sending a note with your contact information to rdrake@ku.edu.

Hello All, posted 02/13/14

If you missed the meeting last night, you missed a goodie. Robert Sharp of the Jayhawk Model Masters (RC airplanes) and three of their members, showed us a number of very nice
models, one with 4 horsepower! They fly at the field south of Lawrence below the dam.

Suggestion for meeting format change. In November we agreed to have speakers go first. While perhaps a good idea it may be best to go back to the old format: do club business first, and
keep it short, when we have speakers that may take a bit longer.

Joyce Pike KB6BLD, Lawrence, will give us  the program in March,"Home Emergency Preparation." Spring storm season is coming!

Norm Mast has found us a great program for August; Jerome Kahn, AC0RL, of Hutchinson, will give us his
program titled: "Installing a 90 foot tilt over tower in 1000 easy steps!"

73, Phil, W0XI

For those who missed the January meeting , I gave a short introduction to Radio Astronomy with power point slides.

We're planning on a build session for April. I've got some ideas but let me know what your interests are. We could do the build in my basement perhaps. Have benches and electric and good lighting. We could build an audio amp on a tiny PCB or a crystal set, or a TRF set using the MK484 3-legged chip and a handful of parts. The later is probably the easiest and best build, and cheep too!

May, Ken Filardo, KA0THK, will describe what he's designing for his MOON BOUNCE station.

More later as we get em lined up!

Contact Phil if you have pictures.
