Douglas County Kansas Logo
In an effort to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, Douglas County Health Officer Dr. Thomas Marcellino issued a “Stay at Home” order on March 22. The order remains in effect until April 23, unless otherwise amended. Douglas County officials earlier restricted public access to all Douglas County buildings, effective March 19, until further notice and prohibited public gatherings in the county of more than 10 people.

The DCARC General Meeting on April 8, 2020, will be conducted virtually via Zoom. The Zoom platform will allow members to very easily participate over various platforms, including web-browser, smartphone or dial-in. We would like to make sure everyone join can the meeting, but for security, please e-mail info@w0uk.com to sign up for the meeting.

While normal lines of communication are not expected to be affected during this pandemic, there is always the possibility that assistance by ham radio operators may be needed. This is a good opportunity to check your gear to ensure that you are ready just in case.

Be sure to review all KDHE and Douglas County guidelines.

WØUK Winter Field Day – Jan. 25

Winter Scene in KansasThe Douglas County Amateur Radio Club plans to operate as WØUK during Winter Field Day, Jan. 25. The club will operate from the home station of club president, David Klamet, WØFEY. Several radios and antennas will be available. Sponsored by the Winter Field Day Association (WFDA), this annual event’s stated purpose is to encourage emergency operating preparedness in the winter. According to the WFDA, getting ready for emergency communication in a winter environment is just as important as the preparations and practice that take place each June during ARRL Field Day. The rules are similar to those for ARRL Field Day, except all amateur radio operators around the world are allowed to participate, not just North America.
